Layers Of The Atmosphere Density Experiment
We talked about how our Earth is surrounded by a layer of gases called the atmosphere and it is this layer that protects our Earth and helps to provide the conditions that make life possible as in not too hot or not too cold. Our atmosphere has 5 different layers which are the troposphere, stratosphere, mesosphere, thermosphere & exosphere. This is a super simple project that you can do at home with ingredients you may already have in your house.
Learning About Bodies Of Water! DIY Oil Spill
When we started talking about all the different bodies of water that exist on our planet we talked a lot about the importance of keeping our water clean. Water is sacred and without we wouldn't be able to survive. We created our own DIY Oil Spill, A freshwater vs. salt water polymer clay graph.
Learning About Landforms!
We had lots of fun talking and reading about different kinds of landforms and learning which are our favourites. Making an edible landform diorama, edible cave treats and our very own cave in a cup.
Freshwater Mixed Media Painting
We have been learning about bodies of water and one of the creative projects that we did alongside that were these freshwater mixed media paintings. I asked Nixie & Forrest what type of body of water they wanted to focus on and they decided on Freshwater lakes so we spent some time researching what kind of fish live there and which were their favourites.
Bottle Rocket That Actually Flies!
Nixie wanted to make something that could fly so we searched the internet for ideas and found so many baking soda rockets so we thought we'd have a go at making one. I was a bit dubious that it would actually go very high into the sky but I was pleasantly proved wrong!
Water is Sacred Necklaces
We've been learning about bodies of water and the importance of water and how without it we wouldn't be able to survive, that water is truly sacred. We've been talking a lot about how we need to protect our oceans and all bodies of water so we made these little necklaces and pendants.
Cat Shell Ornaments
We spent our morning at our special little beach where we collected scallop and oyster shells to bring home so that we could make some really sweet cat ornaments.
Mummified Cats!
Nixie wanted to learn more about cats and one of the things we learned about were about the cats in Egypt and how they were worshipped and how they were even mummified. This fact was a bit difficult for Nixie to take in but she still wanted to make these mummified cats out of toilet roll.
