Making Our Own Nudibranchs!
We have been learning about Molluscs and today we finished our nudibranchs. We love these creatures, some of them are so incredibly gorgeous and colourful that it almost doesn't seem like they could be real! What a beautiful world we have to look after.
Gustav Klimt Inspired Art
I've always been such a fan of Gustav Klimt's work and I was excited that after our Frameless experience in London, Nixie has become inspired by him too. Here we share our Klimt inspired Tree Of Life & Brich Tree Forest.
Jellyfish Glue Resist Art
We had such a cosy day today. We finished our glue and watercolour jellyfish paintings and Forrest did such an amazing job, he's been having a tough time recently with getting really upset when he's making something if he thinks he's made a mistake but today he truly enjoyed himself and it was the most beautiful thing to see.
Jellyfish Art using watercolours, chalk & Oil pastels!
Afterwards we decided it was the perfect time to make some jellyfish art so we got out our art supplies and got creative! I really love when we use several different mediums to make a piece. For this art project we used watercolours, chalk pastels and oil pastels.
Sea Star Rice Krispie Treats
We also made some edible echinoderms: Sea Star Rice Krispy treats. We also learned that Starfish aren't really fish and that the more accepted name for them is the Sea Star so that is what we will be calling them from now on.
Edible Coral Reef
This year Nixie wants to focus on the animal kingdom and we've been loosely following Blossom & Roots third grade science curriculum. It's a really wonderful resource but I always love to add more hand-on and creative projects to the topics that interest us. We had already delved into learning about the ocean, corals and the coral reef a year ago but Nixie wanted to learn about it again so we made these edible coral reef treats.
Making Art With Sponges!
Today we had a really lovely cosy day inside learning more about sponges, echinoderms and cnidarians. So it was the perfect opportunity to do some painting with sea sponges and we took inspiration from our outing to Frameless in London last week and they made some gorgeous pieces.
Acorn Necklaces
Making little acorn necklaces are one of our favourite autumn crafts. They make such great little gifts and are so quick and easy to make.
