DIY Healing Salve~ Yarrow & Plantain
For this post I'm sharing with you all our favourite salve we've ever made to date which is our Yarrow & Plantain healing salve. Everyone in our family swears by it and we always have some in our bag whenever we go out. We use it for cuts, scrapes, bug bites and even blisters and it speeds up healing exponentially. You can forage for them pretty much all year around and is something you could do now if you felt inspired to.
Worms, Worms, Worms! All About Worms!
The past few days it's been all about worms over here. We've been reading about them, digging for them, looking at them under microscopes, making worm homes, growing worms, doing experiments, and making bookmarks and even painting with worms!
Deer Paper Craft
A couple of weeks ago Nixie really wanted to learn about deer so we spent a couple of days researching which species of deer live in the New Forest and discovering a little bit about each one. No matter what we are learning about I always try to incorporate something creative and for this theme we did some paper craft and made a deer silhouette.
Origami Jumping Frogs
After finding our frogspawn last week I knew that Nixie would want to learn about frogs, so we've been doing a lot of frog related activites! We learn about them every year and what's amazing is that every year she takes in something new and her understanding of them grows in depth.
First Nettle Crisps Of The Year
This morning I woke up on a mission to find some Nettles so that we could make our first Nettle crisps of the year. I had seen some last week growing along the hedges and although I hadn't seen a lot I knew there would be enough to make some yummy crisps. I brought with us some gardening gloves and a pair of scissors (a must when collecting Nettle Leaves) and we were on our way.
Make Your Own Soy Candles
We love making candles in our house, there's something extra cosy about making them from scratch and then lighting them up. There are so many different ways to make candles. we love using clay and making little bowls out of them and then just adding the wax to them but you could also just use little jars and paint them to make them a little more special. We tend to make a lot of heart themed candles.
Raising Tadpoles
I cannot believe it is tadpole season already and we haven’t even made it into February! This is our fourth year raising tadpoles and I’m so excited to be experiencing it with Forrest for the first time. Being able to watch them go through their metamorphosis into little froglets is always such an incredible experience and never gets old.
Make Your Own Origami Arctic Wolf Family
We had fun with Nixie's theme of Arctic wolves, along with making our Wolf Silhouettes, we also made the sweetest little family of Origami wolves.
