Fun Polymer Clay project for Kids: Birds and Worms Tic Tac Toe Game
I'm so excited to share this little project of ours! Back when we were spending a bit of time learning about bees I came across the sweetest little tic tac toe game of bees and flowers and knew straight away that we needed to make one too but instead of bees and flowers I wanted to make one with birds and worms since Nixie absolutely loves birds.
This has been a project of love and a project that I have really enjoyed doing with Nixie. Since we made our little bees out of polymer clay we ended up ordering some more and creating things out of it has become one of our newest hobbies. For the past couple of weeks whenever Forrest does decide to have a nap me & Nixie get busy making things out of polymer clay. We both just love it so much! it's such a relaxing thing to do and it's been such a beautiful quiet way to just be together, Just the two of us.
This took way longer to make than I thought it would but that's only because Forrest broke two of the birds and I needed to remake them! Now we have put it somewhere that he can't reach!
Materials: polymer clay
Instructions:
1. Make 5 spheres (for the body & head) and 5 smaller spheres (for the tail feather) (sorry I only took photos while I made three of them thinking that I only needed three to realise after the fact that I needed 5! That's my sleep deprived brain showing up!)
2. Roll the smaller sphere into a noodle shape and then flatten. & attach to the bigger sphere. This will make the tail feather.
3. take another colour and make a tiny noodle shape and roll it up at one end (this is kind of fiddly!) and attach to the top of the bigger sphere. This is the crest.
4. Now time for the wings. Make three sets of very small spheres getting gradually smaller in size & in different colours. Then attach them together from largest to smallest and attach to your body.
5. Add a beak and eyes
6. Now make the worms. Take a bit of clay and roll into a worm shape and shape it to the way you want it and add eyes and a little hole for its mouth. Don't forget the segments!
7. Next make the tic tac toe board!
8. Place into oven according to the instructions on the clay's package. Now you are finished and can play!
