Deer Paper Craft
A couple of weeks ago Nixie really wanted to learn about deer so we spent a couple of days researching which species of deer live in the New Forest and discovering a little bit about each one. She told me her favourite species of deer is the Muntjac (although I don't think we've ever had the honour of seeing them at least not yet!) because they look so cute and because they are also called the barking deer! She also love the majestic Red deer and the fallow deer. We are so lucky to see them regularly when we are out in the forest and I am so happy we are able to give her & her brother a childhood surrounded by nature and wildlife. Leaving London was definitely the right decision!
No matter what we are learning about I always try to incorporate something creative and for this theme we did some paper craft and made a deer silhouette in the forest, I thought it was the perfect little project and it was also pretty easy.
It is always a bit tricky making things with a curious little toddler who has a mind of his own but I just try to set both of them up with the same thing because Forrest will only want to do what his big sister is doing. All was going well until he decided to paint our cat Muad'dib with bright red acrylic paint! He was not very happy about it and I tried to wash it off as best as I could but kind of failed at doing so, in the end poor Muad'dib managed to clean it all off himself, well mostly, there was a slight tinge of pink for a few days as a reminder.
Materials:
- Red & White Acrylic Paint
- Deer silhouettes printed and cut out (to make it quicker you could make the silhouette red and then skip the painting it part but I didn't get a chance to do that)
- White & black A4 card stock
- scissors
- glue
Instructions:
- Paint you silhouettes red, you may need to do a few coats
- Cut out black tree shaped strips the height of the A4 card stock so that they go from the bottom to the top of the paper
- Paint white lines and some white circles on the trees so that they look like birch trees
- Decide how you want them to look all put together on your paper
- Then glue it all into place
- and then you're finished!
