We also learned about the duo who calls themselves Chiaozzi who are known for their whimsical surreal sculptures which I thought would be a lot of fun to do with the kids and let their imaginations lead the way. First we looked at some of their work at EternityStew.

We also watched some videos to learn a little bit more about them before beginning our own creations.

CHIAOZZA inspired sculpture

This was a papermache based project and really great one as the kids could make whatever they wanted.

Here's what you need:

  • wallpaper paste (or whichever papermache glue/paste you prefer)
  • newspaper/papermache paper
  • cardboard rolls of all sorts, any recyclable materials
  • tinfoil
  • masking tape
  • paper
  • pencil
  • acrylic paints
  • wooden base if needed

Here's How We Created Them:

  1. First the kids thought about what they wanted to create and drew their potential designs.

  2. Once the designs were drawn it was time to build the base using whichever materials you could find. Forrest needed cardboard rolls and masking tape for his and Nixie's required paper rolled up along with masking tape They also used wires to add tentacles.

  3. Once the base is finished it's time to begin adding the papermache or in Nixie's case she chose to wrap hers first in tinfoil to make it easier before adding the papermache.

  4. Next, leave to dry and then you can paint them (Forrest chose to add a base to his)!
