Bottle Rocket That Actually Flies!
Nixie wanted to make something that could fly so we searched the internet for ideas and found so many baking soda rockets so we thought we'd have a go at making one. I was a bit dubious that it would actually go very high into the sky but I was pleasantly proved wrong! It went so high! This was such a hit with the kids and considering how easy it is to make is something we will probably make many times again.
How To Make Your Bottle Rocket
This was a very simple and easy project to do, the only thing that took a bit of time was decorating the rocket but you could always leave it plain and I'm sure it'll still shoot high into the sky.
What You'll Need:
- 2 litre bottle
- 2 cups vinegar
- A size 4 stopper
- 2 tablespoons of baking soda
- measuring cup
- funnel
- spoon
- Tissue
- Lego
- Coloured Card stock
- Ruler
- Pencil
- Scissors
- Glue stick
What To Do:
1. The first thing you need to do is to decorate your bottle rocket!
2. The next stage is to create your very own launch pad using your Lego!
3. Now the fun part: take your rocket outside to a big field to test it.
4. Get your rocket fuel ready by adding 2 tbsp of baking soda into a tissue and fold it in half and then roll it into a thin tube (so that it can fit into the bottle). Set it aside.
5. Fill your rocket with 2 cups of vinegar using your funnel
6. Now add the tissue and push it in just enough so it can still be held into place by the stopper.
7. Then tip it over and put into launcher and wait for it to shoot off into the sky!! Make sure to quickly get out of the way! (We failed with our first attempt but then every attempt after that was a success so you may need to try it a couple of times to get it right)
